Un Petite French Baking Class in Paris

 In Paris

Today Achille and I went to a baking class and learned how to make eclairs. I figured I should post this now, while I’m still on the sugar high.

Because I’m off for the next two weeks from real teaching, Achille’s mom offered to let me be off of Au Pairing for next week so that I can take a trip. So this week, Achille and I are doing a lot of fun stuff (but really, we always do. This family is great to Au Pair for because they pay for him and I to do stuff like this.) Tomorrow it’s the aquarium, then later on in the week it’s the movies, and then the circus!

The lesson was great because it was all in French. Although, I can’t let Achille know that I do understand and speak the language, or else the jig is up, and he won’t make an effort to try English. He is smart though, and it is difficult, especially when his hands are in all the sprinkles and the instructor says “Achille, ne touchez pas s’il tu plaît!” but he does it anyway,  so I have to say “She said don’t touch.” and he says “TU COMPRENDS LE FRANÇAIS!” (you understand French!) …And I am caught red handed.

Or worse, when his baby sister wants to play with us, and Achille says to her “Nadine à dit que tu dois partir maintenant” (Nadine says you have to leave now) and immediately I have to look at teary eyed Ambre and say “I didn’t say that”

Well. Whoops. His English is better than some of my students, anyway.
