In Madrid

A few photos from my trip to Madrid, made possible by my lovely host (and impromptu tour guide) Amanda. It was 70 and sunny the entire time!

Top Left: A random street in Madrid, which I included to show the simplistic beauty that can be found basically anywhere.

Top Right: Photos from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. An amazing modern art museum where I was not only lucky enough to see a few Dali paintings, (my favorite, next to Magritte.) But I also got to see Picasso’s Guernica, which, after some research I discovered did not even return to Spain until 1981, according to Picasso’s wish that the painting not become Spanish property until the end of Fascism.

Bottom Left: Temple de Debod. Pictures won’t do it justice, it’s just something you have to see for yourself. The view was incredible, to say the least. We went right before sunset.

Bottom Right: Mercado San Miguel. Maybe it’s just because I love food too much, but this market was my favorite part of Madrid. Packed to the brim with bustling eager crowds of people sampling food and drinks. After lunch, we sat outside under one of the umbrellas and took a long coffee break (really, at least a few hours,) which felt perfectly European and appropriate for such beautiful weather.

Besides what’s pictured, we visited the royal palace, went clubbing on Halloween, and ate lots (lots… too much…) of delicious Spanish food. And everything was so inexpensive (especially compared to Paris) that I even managed to get a little shopping in.

xo à bientôt
