Miami, Florida
Miami was one of those trips I took with the sole purpose of escaping the torture that is Michigan winter for a few days. I’ve never been a Miami-person, in fact, I am barely the type of person who enjoys traveling inside the U.S. However, Miami surprised me. We scored an excellent deal on plane tickets and an AirBnB, (less than $300 for the whole trip!) and we spent out days drinking cocktails on the beach.
Recommendations:
Lodging: Definitely spring for an AirBnB close to south beach. Obviously the further away you stay the cheaper it will be, but you can find a great deal like we did if you’re willing to search, and you will break even by saving on all the Uber/Lyft costs.
Transportation: In Miami there is actually a free trolly available to take you around — kind of like a bus system, but cuter, and free! I have family in Miami and they did not even know about it, so don’t be surprised if no one mentions this as a mode of available transportation, but definitely look for the stops anyway and take advantage of saving some money.
Other: If you can tear yourself away from the beach, go to Wynwood- the art district located some 30-40 minutes out. It has a great bar/club scene and tons of beautiful street art, which the detroiter in me obviously loved.
It’s definitely worth going.
