New York, New York, U.S.A

 In New York City

My oh my. NYC is probably my favorite city in the world next to Paris. I’ve been about 5 times, so these photos are throughout the years. They’re all over the place. NYC is the only other place that I feel like there’s just too much of (in a good way.) I’ve been so many times and and still feel like I could never possibly see it all. Also, much like Paris, there’s some sort of magic in the air in NYC. It just feels magical. And depending on the day I feel like I’m living out my 90s-Meg-Ryan-Tom-Hanks Rom Com fantasy, or my Sex and the City or Friends sitcom fantasy… I mean, there’s a reason why all these stories are based in NYC. It’s a magical place!

I actually met Meg Ryan while walking in SoHo one day… and if you know anything about me at all, you know how much I fucking love Meg Ryan. So when I saw her, I kinda stalked her for a few blocks. She didn’t much appreciate it, but it was my “Regina George punched me in the face and it was awesome” moment. No regrets.

I’m not going to break down every single visit and from now on when I go, I’ll just create separate little posts for cool stuff that I do, similarly to how I write about Paris. For now, I’ll just give my top recommendations. There’s a lot, so saddle up.

NYC recommendations:

Eat:

  • Eat Pho. I don’t even remember the exact restaurant I went to, but Aboh and I have been to NYC together twice and both agree that there are plenty of great options. Next time I’m there, I’ll make a note of the most delicious spots.

  • Get a ‘New York Slice’ (they can be found literally anywhere!) I know I said that about the pho, but it’s even true-er for the pizza.

  • China Town. Just, China Town.

Museums:

  • The 9/11 Memorial and museum, but you absolutely need to put aside about half a day for this. The museum is so detailed and so incredibly interesting. I spent 5 hours in here. Even if you think you know it all about 9/11, I guarantee you’ll learn something you didn’t know about the day in here. Bring the tissues.

  • Museum of Modern Art: MoMa is just an incredible museum in general with so much art. Even if that’s not something you care about so much, you still have got to go to see Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

Other:

  • For an amazing view of Manhattan and an incredible photo spot (see photo below,) go to Westlight in Brooklyn. Explore Brooklyn in general, if you’re staying in Manhattan.

  • If you’re not into touristy things, I would say going to Central Park is the only major must-do. Have a picnic in Central Park. Take a boat ride in Central park, (bonus if you’re traveling with a significant other.)

  • If you’re nuts about NYC in film and TV like I am, look that shit up and go see it. It’s worth it. (I have so many photos I can post about this, but It’s probably worth an entirely separate post.)
  • A lot of people like to see the Wall Street Bull in Manhattan’s Financial District, but I only recommend you go so that you can see The Fearless Girl, the statue of a tiny girl facing the bull with no fear that represents the power of women.

  • If you’re visiting NYC during the warmer months, and you want to do a beach day, you can actually go to Rockaway Beach in Queens. Depending on which borough you’re staying in it can be kind of a bitch to get there, but it is possible. You can bring drinks and snacks or buy them there.
